Native Planting Mix

Ingredients

Nantucket Gold Compost™

Existing native soil

Sand (only if soil is compacted or heavy)

water

Directions

Start with existing native soil as the base.

Blend in 1 part Nantucket Gold™ Compost to 2 parts native soil.

If soil is compacted or not free-draining, add up to 1 additional part sand to loosen structure.

Use mixture in planting holes or lightly amend the planting area.

Water thoroughly at planting.

Timing

Fall: ideal for native plant root establishment

Spring: acceptable with consistent watering

Why it works

Native plants prefer lean, well-drained soils. Compost supports root establishment and microbial life, while sand is used only when needed to maintain proper drainage and avoid overly rich conditions.

Pro Tip

For natives, compost supports establishment — sand protects drainage.
