Directions

Choose your base soil

If you have soil on site: use existing native soil.

If starting from scratch: use a clean, untreated raised-bed or garden soil (for example, a product from Coast of Maine designed for vegetable beds).

Build the mix

  • Blend 2 parts Nantucket Gold Compost with 1 part soil until evenly mixed.

Fill and settle

  • Add mixture to the bed and water lightly to settle.

Feed at planting

  • Apply an OMRI-listed organic vegetable fertilizer at the label rate.

Water well

  • Deep watering helps activate soil biology and nutrients.

Timing

Early spring: ideal

Late summer/fall: good for soil prep before next season

Why it works

Compost improves structure and moisture retention, while a true soil base (native or purchased) provides mineral content and stability. Fertilizer supplies the nutrients vegetables need during active growth.
