Potting & Container Mix

Ingredients

Nantucket Gold Compost™

Coir peat (coconut fiber)

Vermiculite — or perlite if drainage is the priority (note: perlite retains less moisture than vermiculite and works best for plants that prefer drier conditions)

Worm castings (optional)

Water

Directions

Soak coir peat in warm water until fully hydrated and fluffy.

Combine 1 part coir peat with 1 part vermiculite in a large container and mix well.

Blend in 2 parts Nantucket Gold™ Compost and worm castings if using.

Mix thoroughly until uniform.

Timing

Spring through fall: ideal for container planting and repotting

Year-round: suitable for indoor containers

Why it works

Containers can't pull nutrients or moisture from surrounding soil, so the mix has to do everything. Coir peat holds moisture without compacting, vermiculite keeps the mix light and aerated, and Nantucket Gold provides organic matter and microbial life to support healthy root development.

Pro Tip

Compost breaks down over time and your container level will drop. Add a fresh layer of Nantucket Gold each season to replenish organic matter and keep roots insulated.
